Privacy Policy

Milesta is a private, local-first life journal for iOS.
What we collect
Nothing, by default. Milesta has no accounts, no tracking, and no servers operated by us.
If — and only if — you opt in (during onboarding or in Settings), Milesta sends anonymous usage statistics to PostHog, hosted in the European Union: which features are used and how often. These events never contain your milestone texts, notes, photos, places, links, or any identifier tied to you, and you can switch them off at any time in Settings. See PostHog's privacy policy.
Where your data lives
Every milestone, photo, note, link, and category you create is stored only on your device, in the app's local database. Deleting the app deletes the data.
What ever leaves your device
Only content you explicitly share yourself:
- Recap images, posters, or text summaries you send through the iOS share sheet.
- Backup files you export through the Files app.
Milesta never transmits anything on its own. Optional automatic backups are written to your device's local storage only.
Location
Adding a place to a milestone is optional. If you tap the current-location button, iOS asks for permission and Milesta performs a single lookup to turn your position into a short place name (like "Berlin, Germany"). Only that text is saved, on your device. Milesta never tracks, stores, or transmits coordinates, and never accesses location in the background.
Face ID
If you enable App Lock, Face ID is evaluated entirely by iOS on your device. Milesta only receives a yes/no result and never accesses biometric data.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple. If enabled, receipt validation is handled by RevenueCat using an anonymous identifier; no personal information or journal content is ever involved. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Notifications
Anniversary reminders, recap announcements, and encouragement notes are scheduled locally on your device. No push servers are used.
Your rights (GDPR)
Because Milesta stores no personal data on any server, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or erase on your behalf — your data is exclusively in your hands, on your device. For any privacy question, contact us using the details in the Impressum.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated date.
